Fuzhou, August 31, 2026 — Professor Zhong Shuncong, Vice President of Minjiang University (MJU), received the Annual Distinguished Contribution Award from the International Society for Condition Monitoring (ISCM) at the Fourth World Congress on Condition Monitoring (WCCM 2026), held in Milan, Italy, on August 26. The award honors his outstanding achievements in condition monitoring, non-destructive testing, and related fields.
Professor Zhong's research team has carried out extensive work in non-destructive testing, condition monitoring, and ultra-precision instrumentation. The team developed a broadband optical interferometry method for in-situ detection at atomic-level precision, enabling highly efficient in-situ ultra-precision inspection of subsurface damage and surface topography of optical elements, as well as sub-nanometer film-thickness measurement of semiconductor wafers. It also pioneered terahertz-based theories and methods for detecting hidden internal defects and density inhomogeneity in materials, providing new technical tools for in-service condition monitoring and non-destructive testing of mechanical systems. Furthermore, the team proposed a multi-channel frequency-division multiplexing swept-source optical coherence vibrometry method and system, establishing the theory of optical interference blur attenuation to resolve scattering noise and Doppler ambiguity, and achieving synchronized multi-point vibration-field monitoring across wafer stages, lithography lenses, and other regions. Its principle of vision-based multi-dimensional dynamic information synchronization sensing enables high-precision, multi-dimensional, large-range simultaneous measurement of dynamic displacement at multiple structural points—suitable for the online condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of structures and equipment from miniature to large scale.
Headquartered in the United Kingdom, ISCM is the most authoritative international academic organization in the field of condition monitoring, dedicated to advancing the development and application of condition monitoring and related diagnostic technologies worldwide. Its Annual Distinguished Contribution Award recognizes scholars who have made sustained, pioneering contributions to the field, with only one recipient selected worldwide each year. The award constitutes international recognition of the work of Professor Zhong's team and reflects the strength of MJU's disciplines in condition monitoring and non-destructive testing—another milestone in the University's international academic engagement. A member of Professor Zhong's team accepted the award on his behalf.
